    Canadian women’s hockey team wins gold in Beijing

    Team Canada demonstrated sheer dominance at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice, elevating Canada to a 3-2 win over Team USA. Canada’s women continue to own the international stage, setting a plethora of records in the process.

    Brianne Jenner capped off a remarkable showing by tying the record for most goals in a single women’s Olympic tournament. Jenner scored nine goals and dished five assists.

    Additionally, Sarah Nurse set two records of her own. Nurse racked up the most points in a single women’s Olympic tournament (18) along with the most assists (13).

    Congratulations, ladies! You continue to make Canada proud!

    Barrie Baycats re-sign pitcher Juan Benitez

    The Baycats announce the return of fan-favourite Juan Benitez for the 2022 IBL season! The 6’6” pitcher from the Dominican Republic posted a remarkable 3.05 ERA last season. Furthermore, Benitez bolsters a Baycats bullpen with championship aspirations.

    Benitez signed a professional contract with the Washington Nationals professional team in 2012 and the Miami Marlins in 2017. Moreover, Benitez now resides in Orillia, Ontario.

    Speaking of signings, the Baycats also inked infielder Brendan Colley for the 2022 season. Colley previously played for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Additionally, Colley was an all-star third baseman during the 2021 Varsity Blues season.

    Finally, the Baycats announce March Break camps from March 14-18. The event takes place at The Warehouse on 49 Truman Rd, Unit N9.

    Barrie Colts welcome fans back to Sadlon Arena

    Capacity restrictions may still be capped at 50%, but Colts fans can return to live games! After another government lockdown, Ontario has begun to open back up to the public. Furthermore, the Colts’ next three home games are against the Oshawa Generals, the Mississauga Steelheads, and the Peterborough Petes.

    First, the Colts travel to Paramount Fine Foods Centre for a road match against the Steelheads. The Colts recently snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday vs. Owen Sound Attack. The boys look to regain momentum in the OHL Central Division standings.

    Simcoe County Rovers FC ink Shawn-Claud Lawson

    Jamaican professional footballer Lawson is the latest signing for the Rovers. Lawson previously played for Atletico Ottawa during the 2021 League1 Ontario season, making eight appearances. Lawson joins a growing stable of exciting talent for the newly formed SC Rovers squad.

    Georgian Grizzlies upcoming games

    The men’s basketball team recently edged Seneca Sting 60-50, improving to 3-0 on the season. Further, the boys travel to Fleming College tonight for a 7 pm contest. The Grizzlies then travel to Georgian Brown College on Sunday.

    The men’s volleyball team hosts Centennial College tonight at 7 pm. Afterwards, the boys await George Brown College for a Sunday afternoon match at 3 pm.

    Finally, the women’s volleyball team duels George Brown College on Sunday, 1 pm start time.
