Sharkfest 2021 Comes to a Close
The 30th Sharkfest Tournament, hosted by the Barrie Women’s Hockey Association (BWHA), concluded this past weekend. The tourney resulted in a trifecta of hometown champions! The Barrie Sharks U13-Peewee-A, U13-Peewee-HL, and U15-Bantam-AA teams all claimed gold in their respective divisions. Additionally, the U13-Peewee-AA, the U13-Peewee-HL, the U15-Bantam-A, U15-Bantam-BB, U15-Bantam-HL, and U18-Midget-AA Sharks clubs were finalists.

Sharkfest 2021 was a breath of fresh air for the city, and for that matter, for the tourism industry. Thousands of fans gathered to watch 150 teams across arenas throughout Barrie and Innisfil. Moreover, aspiring young female athletes were treated to the delight of a competitive but high-spirited weekend of hockey.
Barrie Colts Break Even (Again)
The Colts came up short Friday night during their visit to Mississauga, getting blanked 3-0 by the Steelheads at Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Steelheads forward Zakary Lavoie scored midway through the first period, which ended up being the game-winner, and the Steelheads cruised to victory. Further, Matteo Lalama made 25 saves for the Colts in a losing effort.
After the loss, the boys bounced back Saturday night at Sadlon Arena with a thunderous victory over a familiar foe, the Niagara IceDogs, winning 6-2. Additionally, Colts captain Brandt Clarke received his championship ring as a member of the U18 Canadian gold medal-winning team. While at the tournament, Clarke contributed two goals and five assists, helping Canada defeat Russia for the first time since 2013.
Coupled with the ring ceremony, the Colts debuted new jerseys, courtesy of Real Canadian Superstore.
Recently acquired veteran goaltender Mack Guzda made his Colts debut, making 23 saves to earn the win. Guzda was traded to Barrie by the Owen Sound Attack for a pair of draft picks Friday afternoon. Furthermore, Dallas Stars prospect Nicholas Porco potted three goals, recording his first OHL hat trick to lead the charge on the offensive end. On top of that, Oskar Olausson scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season on the power play to provide insurance.

The Grizzlies competed against the Redeemer Royals in volleyball and basketball this weekend. OCAA athletics continue to ramp up after a disrupted 2020 season, pleasing students and sports fans across the board. The Grizzlies will resume competition this upcoming weekend against the Loyalist Lancers.
