Baycats conclude the weekend on a three-game win streak

The Barrie Baycats wrapped up a successful road trip over the weekend, handily defeating the Brantford Red Sox 13-2 on Friday night, coupled with a high-scoring 14-8 win over the London Majors on Sunday.

Following a 10-game stretch rife with inconsistent play, the Baycats have rallied to win three consecutive games. Furthermore, the Cats improve to 9-6 on the season while moving to third place in the 2022 Intercounty Baseball League standings.

Notably, all three wins are the result of double-digit scoring. The Baycats have recorded a remarkable 38 runs during the recent stretch. Barrie remains 3.5 games back of the league-leading Welland Jackfish (12-2).

Newcomer Malik Williams has been instrumental in sparking the team’s offence. In addition to a home run yesterday afternoon, Williams has earned four hits and runs in just three games this season. What’s more, Williams has chipped in four RBI in just 12 at-bats.

Next, the Baycats travel to Hastings Stadium on Tuesday and take on the Guelph Royals at 7:30 pm. The Cats will put their winning streak on the line before returning home to Vintage Throne Stadium on Thursday to host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Moreover, Thursday’s contest gets underway at 7:30 pm.

Rovers get blanked by opposition during weekend matches

The Simcoe County Rovers FC went 0-1-1 at home this weekend. The women’s club tasted defeat at J.C. Massie Field for the first time in club history, losing 5-0 to Vaughan Azzurri on Saturday. Furthermore, the recent skid sees the Rovers (7-2-3) slip to fifth place in League1 Ontario’s Women’s Premier standings.

The men’s club battled Sigma FC to a scoreless draw, ending a two-game winning streak. The Rovers (6-2-3) remain locked in playoff position, seated fourth overall in the Men’s Premier standings. Additionally, the Rovers trail the division-leading North Toronto Nitros (8-2-1) by just four points.

The Rovers return to action on Wednesday in the Women’s Premier, taking on BVB IA Waterloo at 8 pm on J.C. Massie Field. What’s more, both clubs play host on Sunday, June 26. The men’s team welcomes Windsor TFC to the pitch, beginning at 2 pm, while the women’s squad hosts the Woodbridge Strikers at 5 pm.

Bombers Jr. C lacrosse results

The Barrie Bombers Jr. C program bested the Halton Hills Bulldogs on Saturday night. Despite trailing early, the Bombers quickly responded and emphatically defeated the Bulldogs 14-4. Moreover, it is the third straight victory against the Bulldogs this season.

Afterward, the Bombers squared off on Sunday against the top-seeded Fergus Thistles. The Bombers opened the scoring with an unassisted shot by Cody Callow before following it up with a Graham Nash tally. The teams continued trading goals, but ultimately, Fergus would score late in the closing minutes to seal the contest 10-9.

Barrie came close to earning its first winning streak of the 2022 campaign. The Bombers will rematch the Thistles this Friday, June 24, at Arthur Arena before returning home to host the Six Nations Stealth on Saturday night.
