Georgian Grizzlies Men’s Rugby Team Play Gold Medal Game

The Grizzlies compete for gold vs. the St. Lawrence Surge Saturday, Nov. 13, at the St. Lawrence Kingston campus – North Field. They qualified after vanquishing the Durham Lords on Nov. 6 at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie, 24-22. By the same token, the Surge defeated the Humber Hawks 17-15 to advance.

In their previous bout, the Grizzlies and Surge battled to a deadlocked score of 12-12 on Oct. 3. The two teams have an opportunity to get the last laugh and close the season as champions. As a result, and with bragging rights on the line, fans should expect a competitive match-up between the region’s top schools.

The squad possess a star-studded lineup, culminated by the third-year student and second-row Jed Bricknell being named co-winner of the OCAA men’s rugby player of the year award. In like manner, Bricknell shares the award with Travis Zelinski from the opposing Surge. Additionally, three of Bricknell’s teammates were named OCAA all-stars; Daniel Martyn, Donovan Jacko, and James Robb-Kennedy. Robb-Kennedy was also named OCAA’s men’s rugby rookie of the year.
